Awarned Potentials

Evoked potentials are one of the laboratory tests we use to evaluate the integrity of the nervous system, the name of the test varies according to the type of stimulus given here. As the name suggests, we give a warning in split potential studies and evaluate the responses to this stimulus. The recording of the stimulus given in the neurology outpatient clinic is done on the scalp via superficial electrodes. If the stimulus we give is a visual stimulus, it is called Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) and if the painful stimulus is called Somatosensory Evoked Potential (SEP).

When are evoked potential studies requested?

It is performed to evaluate the functional disorder of brain cells in the presence of visual or sensory complaints, where no disorder can be detected in radiological examinations.

These are laboratory studies that are frequently used in the evaluation of the entire spinal cord in patients with diseases called multiple sclerosis (MS) or in patients with scoliosis (spinal cord disease).
